Pole Arms & Battle Axes

Pole arms are long, hafted weapons which were particularly developed in warfare for combating mounted soldiers and those with heavy armor.

This instrument was developed from an agricultural implement but evolved into a weapon style of its own.

A medieval pole arm is actually a weapon on the end of a stick and is specifically an infantry weapon.

The pole arms increased the leverage for cutting the armor and increased the reach till above the horse. The pole arm was basically developed to put infantry on even terms with cavalry.

The development of the pole arm reveals the trends in armor and tactics in medieval warfare.

A variety of weapons were employed during the medieval period.

The most common use of weapon types is the same; they varied adequately to make it significant to differentiate between them.

Axe is regarded as an imperative weapon in history of mankind as it was also one of the first tools developed by humans.

Arrays of single and double-handed axes were used during the medieval periods.

The unique Battle Axes, or War Axes were one of the most frequently used and famous weapons for battle during the middle Ages.

The Medieval battle axes had extremely sharpened cutting edge that could easily pierce armor and slice chain mail worn by the opposing knights.

Moreover, the battle axe was considered to be light-weight and thus was an exceptionally apt weapon for one-handed battle both on the ground and as well on the horseback.

Battle axes have been symbols of power and ruler ship since centuries.  The growth of armor had its valuable influence on the weapon design during the medieval times.

The battle axe was simply made to use as it was sharp enough to slash and cut and at the same time it was also heavy enough to hit and disorient an opponent in full armor. The arched design of the war axe blades allowed the user to slash as well as stab with its unique point.
