Shields, Medieval Shields

Between all kinds and types of armor formed and created, shields is regarded as one of the most exquisite items and is still very much in demand by the historians and connoisseurs of art.

The shape and designs of medieval weaponry have always pulled great attention and are some of the most talked about weapons.

They gained immense popularity even in the olden times and still continue to do so. Most of these weapons find a significant place in homes, patios and lounges as items of décor.

Their exports have witnessed an enormous leap in the last few decades which itself is an indication of their booming solicitation.

Shields have always been used as some of the most important weapons used in wars. They may as well be called a part of armor. The shields are usually held in the hand and used to ward off the blows.

Traditionally, shield making was actually thought to be some sort of a craft. The Knight shields were given the specific shape, round, oblong and of different sizes as required.

They were usually stretched over with ox hide in order to give it strength. As seen on the antique these shields were heavily carved with the logo of the king, and other war motifs.

Antique shields were often made of metal with a hide stretched on it. They were also adorned with the embossing and metal inlay work.

The sizes differed as per the weapon used. Till this point in time the splendidly done craft items are used as decorative in patios, living rooms and lounges.

Shields are considered to be the most important and vital form of body protection. Moreover it is also regarded as an extension of the warrior's armor.
