Carving has been experimented and perfected upon a variety of materials from which some of them include metals, stone, wood, ivory and many more. Way back in the 60's and 70's, skilled artisans carved into these materials and successfully managed to create some of the most breathtaking pieces of artwork.

Wood Carving is also considered to be an interesting combination of hobby and art. Just like with any other hobby or other types of similar art, a wood carver is profoundly involved in the creation process. The finished wood carvings are certainly much prettier pieces of ornament – they sure do reveal a symbolic value or the creator that is often hard to express in money or material things. Wood carving is basically a form of working wood by means of a cutting tool held in the hand that results into a wooden figure or figurine or might even turn into the ornamentation of a wooden object.

Stone carving has been a prehistoric times activity where pieces of rough natural stone are shaped by the controlled removal of stone. Owing to the durability of the material, evidence can be found that even the earliest societies engaged themselves in some form of stone work. Although, stone carving differs from stone excavation, in that it is the act of shaping or incising the stone, whereas quarrying is basically an activity of acquiring useful stone, usually in blocks, from geological sources.

Ivory carving refers to the ornamentation of ivory that is done by using sharp cutting tools, either mechanically or manually. Humans have ornamentally carved ivory since prehistoric times, and much of the ancient work imparts information about the use of tools during the carving's time period. Ivory is considered to be one of the most superb and fine materials that feature the most intricate designs carved on its surface.
