Handicraft Process | Beading | Bronze casting | Carving | Chikan | Embroidery | Enameling | Engraving | EPNS

Filigree was traditionally written in the form of either “filigrann” or “filigrane”.

It refers to a particular type of work done by using jewels in a process which is done by making delicate twisted threads with the help of gold and silver.

Moreover, filigree is also considered to be an important ornamental work which can also be worked upon by using different types of “fine twisted wires”.

Filigree is a form of art that involves actions such as twisting, winding, and plaiting thin flexible and malleable threads of different metal and thereby bringing them together at different meeting points.

You will find that there are tiny grains or occasionally even beads of the same metals are used to work upon and set them in an attractive way on the eyes of volutes, and on the junctions, and at times even at the intervals that highlights the entire jewelry or any decorative piece effectively.

Filigree work is definitely difficult and fragile, but at the same time it is also the most fantastic embellishment that can be executed on any piece of jewelry or on any dull decorative item that need to be enhanced.

Out of all the decorations existing till date, Silver filigree work is undeniably possesses the most distinct and unique style of its own.

This is a tedious process which involves the use of pure silver that is placed all the way through a “wire drawing machine”.

However traditionally when these types of machines were not available, the silver metal was flattened and compressed on an anvil and then stretched out into a lengthy wire by passing it through a harden cover which has an opening of 36 wire gauges.

While filigree articles and decorative pieces are described as a blend of selection of bits and pieces placed together.
