A carpet is referred to as a loom-woven, or any compacted
animal fibers, such as wool or fur, textile or synthetic fabric
floor covering.
Traditionally even table and wall coverings were called as
carpets, as it was uncommon to use them in European interiors
until the 18th century. Individuals normally use the words
“carpet “and “rug “interchangeably.
However, a prominent distinction between the two is based
on their sizes.
As a matter of fact, carpets are much larger than rugs and
occupy more floor space comparatively. There are several types
of carpets found around the world. One of the most popular
out of them is the flat weave carpet which is created by interlocking
threads.
The category of oriental flat woven carpets includes kilim, soumak,
plain weave and tapestry weaves. The other popular type of carpet
is a hooked carpet which is manually woven by pulling strips of
cloth such as wool or cotton through the meshes of a sturdy and
strong fabric.
